Many of Australia's leading greyhound owners and breeders have every volume so far of "Australian Winning Lines". They form an important part of their reference library and contain vital information to help plan matings and keep track of the lines which are producing quality greyhounds. Some even refer to them as their "Bible". Now in it's seventh year of publication, Australian Winning Lines documents city and feature winners during 1999. In the first part of the book, every city winner is listed alphabetically, with their breeding and winning performances. They are then tabulated in three separate categories according to their sires, dams and maternal grand sires. Feature race winners are similarly classified, with the addition of four-generation pedigrees and family details for all 178 of them. Another section notes big race winners in Britain, Ireland and the USA, with three-generation pedigrees, and finally all Australian track record holders are listed with their parents. Greyhound breeders have many different uses for "Australian Winning Lines". While they may have different theories on sire selection, the book contains valuable information for everyone. For example, one of the most common breeding methods is to use "nicks" between sire and the dam-sire. Others may be interested in the success of line-breeding to notable ancestors. Others may want to judge the prepotency of a stud dog by checking on his ability to produce quality progeny. Prospective purchasers of pups like to see which sires and dam-lines are having the most success. By using "Australian Winning Lines" in conjunction with The Australian And New Zealand Greyhound Stud Book, which is also highly recommended , answers to these and many other questions may be found. The Australian Directory Of Greyhound Sires This handy booklet is produced twice yearly (Autumn and Spring). It contains 4 generation pedigrees of every stud dog advertised in greyhound publications throughout Australia, plus a contact number. Each stud dog is also listed under his sire, making it is easy for breeders to find sons of a particular dog. (e.g. New Tears or Head Honcho).
